FLOOR SANDING MASTERS!
Whatever your type of floor, we’ve brought it back to life during our twenty years in the floor renovation business.
Sanding is a process in which machines use paper of various grades to strip away old sealant or paint, then level and smooth the floor’s surface.
It’s effective on all solid wood floors: hardwood (oak, beech or walnut) or softwood (pine, yew or Douglas fir).
It also works well on engineered floors (those with a layer of hardwood over ply); strip floors; herringbone; parquet blocks; mosaic and even cork.
We’ve renovated wood floors of every age and from all levels of condition.
And in every setting:
whether domestic - from mansions to humble terraces
or commercial:
the office or shop; bar or restaurant; sports hall or school;
town hall or library; gallery or museum.
Why choose us?
A friendly family firm whose team members are fully trained to the exacting standards of the National Wood Floor Association (NWFA).
We provide the best advice and unrivalled workmanship – all founded on our renovation of hundreds of wood floors.

Wood floor renovation: what it’s all about
Assessment
We examine your floor closely and give you the options for the kind of surface you want – depending on its location, function and footfall.
With so many stains and sealants available - with their various advantages and appropriate areas of use – making your choice may not be easy. We’ll run through practical demonstrations to help you make your choice. The renovation process consists of several stages: we’ll quote for each so that you can create a package to suit the requirements of your particular floors.
Minimal fuss
Renovating your wood floors involves some degree of disruption. We endeavour to keep this to an absolute minimum.
We can work flexibly - at weekends or even overnight - to adapt to your social or working schedule and ensure you won’t lose out on valuable business. Every room must be clear of furniture, machinery or office equipment.
Don’t risk injury to backs and knees... We can move large items of furniture and old rugs and carpets. We can even dispose of these responsibly if you so require.
The work begins
We secure loose boards or blocks - and level the floor if uneven.
Damaged or missing areas can be filled with suitable material from our reclaimed sources throughout the country. Whether parquet or boards, these come in a range of shapes and sizes. We’ll find those to match or cut them down to size.
We can also remove old features such as fireplaces and hearths - and cover the space with fresh boards or blocks.
Time to smooth away
Renovation focuses on the sanding away of all traces of old paint, varnish and lacquer - to leave a smooth bare surface.
We use a variety of machines, including handheld sanders for those awkward corners. For finer work, we will even use sandpaper by hand.
As for the mess, those clouds of dust hanging around for weeks afterward are things of the past. Our sanding is 99% dust free – thanks to our system whereby the machines collect dust from outside each room.
A new look?
Complement your current decor or create a completely fresh look by staining the bare wood.
A clear stain enhances the wood grain: a coloured one gives depth and a floor to match or contrast with your décor.
We can advise on the colour scheme to suit your property: from light, bright and modern for the eco-age; to warm and homely for the look of the traditional wooden floors.
Although coloured sealants - i.e. waxes and lacquers - can be applied, we don’t recommend their use. An even coat is difficult to maintain over a large area - and a damaged surface will be all too apparent in its loss of colour.
We recommend performing staining and sealing in two distinct stages. The colour is easier to control and stays fast as the sealant is subjected to wear and tear.
The essential protection
Your sanded and stained floor now needs protection from those eager users and visitors with all their footwear...
Your choice depends on the impression you wish to make - and the amount of wear the floor is likely to experience.
Natural oil: for the traditional beauty of a glowing wooden floor.
Hardwax oil: harder-wearing and penetrates the wood for a non glossy look.
Both sealants highlight the wood’s natural grain - bringing out its inherent colour.
Lacquer: a synthetic sealant for the hardest-working areas. Modern lacquers have a natural look - and being water-based are safe for use in food areas and around children and pets.
Supreme quality
We aim for the best in both our workmanship and quality of materials. We use only the highest quality stains and sealants. No skimping on time either: those that require more than one coat will receive adequate drying time.
High quality ensures your new wood floor will prove to be a great long-term investment: creating a durable floor that retains its good looks.
After-care
Make sure your floor stays in great condition. Call us when you need specific after -care advice for your new floor.
Cleaning is simple and easy through regular sweeping. Avoid vacuums with cylinder brushes as they can spread grit.
A damp mop is fine for light cleaning - with excess moisture being avoided.
Oil and wax floors will benefit from a modest ‘refresh coat’ when the initial shine fades. For a lacquered surface, follow a light sanding with a thin coat of sealant.
And when the sealant has dried...
Your guests, visitors and family will admire your new wood floors
